Essex Street House

Essex Street House

This project demonstrates an approach to reimagining a lean-to addition attached to a 1900s stone villa. It explores how to achieve a sense of intimacy and cocoon-like comfort within an open-plan living space. The warmth of a timber-lined ceiling, combined with modest ceiling heights and expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing, creates a space that feels both grounded and light-filled. Generous views of the rear garden and central courtyard further connect the interior to its natural surroundings.

The removal of solid plaster from the existing rear wall revealed original textures, now celebrated as a tactile, layered feature that enriches the interior with depth and character.
